How we work

Our skid steer carries a forestry mulcher head and a heavy brush mower. Our excavator carries a mulching head and a brush rake for stumps and root balls. Between the two machines, we can take heavy growth off and leave the ground workable.

Most brush and small trees get ground into chips right where they stand. The chips settle into a layer that holds the soil down through the wet months. That matters here, since backyard burning in Linn County typically runs on set seasons and a daily fire district call. Ground lost to Himalayan blackberry is far easier to mulch than to cut and stack.

Willamette Valley Land Clearing grew out of an established Oregon commercial construction operation. Our crews are on this equipment every day. We are based in Lebanon, where the valley floor meets the Cascade foothills, and we cover the towns around us. That means grass seed ground, hazelnut orchards, small rural acreages and wooded lots on the edges.

Before the machines move, we sort out access and timing. Oregon law typically calls for an 811 utility locate ahead of ground-disturbing work. In summer, Oregon Department of Forestry fire season rules can limit power equipment hours. We plan the job around whatever applies to your property.

How does land clearing pricing work?

Price comes down to the size of the area, how thick the growth is and what happens to the material. Slope, soft ground and machine access move it as well. An acre of heavy blackberry and small trees takes far more machine time than an acre of open grass. We look at the property and give you a free estimate for that specific job.

Do you charge for an estimate?

What areas do you serve?

We are based in Lebanon and work the mid-Willamette Valley, roughly an hour of driving around town. That covers Linn, Benton, Marion, Polk and Lane counties, including Albany, Corvallis, Salem, Eugene and Sweet Home. Check the full list of towns if you are not sure your place is in range.

What happens to the brush and trees you clear?

Most of it gets ground into chips on site through forestry mulching and left spread across the ground. On some jobs we rake the material into piles instead, so you can handle it later. Hauling material off the property is not a service we offer. We settle which way suits your job before the machines start.

Can you clear blackberry for good?

The machines can take a blackberry mass down to bare ground and pull root balls out with the brush rake. The plants come back from root crowns left in the soil, so one pass is rarely the end of it. Control after that is repeat mowing or mulching over a couple of seasons, since we do not spray. Our blackberry clearing page walks through how that plays out.

When is the best time of year for land clearing?

Late spring through early fall is the easiest window, since the ground is firm. The valley is wet from fall into spring, and soft ground limits what the machines can do on some properties. Summer brings Oregon Department of Forestry fire season, which can typically restrict power equipment hours. Grass knockdown and defensible space clearing are usually best handled before the valley dries out.

Do I need permits or utility locates before clearing?

Oregon law typically requires an 811 utility locate before ground-disturbing work, and we build that call into the schedule. Permits depend on your county, your fire district and what the land is being cleared for. Burning any material you keep is a separate matter with its own local rules. This is general information rather than legal advice, so confirm the details for your own project.

How big or small a job do you take?

Jobs run from a back corner of a yard to acreage that has gone wild for years. Small ones make sense once the growth is thick enough that hand tools cannot touch it.
